3rd Altrincham Scouts
The Scout Troop at 3rd Altrincham is one of the most popular in the district, with over 30 boys and girls regularly attending each week. The programme is made up of a wide range of activities, combining both scout-based and less traditional activities.
During term time, activities include backwoods cooking, tent peg carving, table tennis, bike rides, rounders, indoor games nights and the completion of badges.
At half-terms, hiking weekends take place staying at a Youth-Hostel. At Easter, a survival camp is held for the older Scouts, where skills such as bivouac building, pioneering and backwoods cooking are learnt.
The pinnacle of the year is Whit Camp, held on the shore of Lake Windermere. The first few days of camp involve backwoods cooking, fire lighting, axe work, building treehouses and going on a day hike. Older Scouts also get the opportunity to 'wild camp' as part of a two-day overnight hike. Towards the end of the week, Scouts take part in rock climbing and kayaking, together with a day trip to Ambleside via the Lake Windermere ferry.
Scouts also have the opportunity to complete their Chief Scouts Gold Award by completing a series of challenge based badges!
